Acetamine HCl is a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound that is used as an antiinflammatory agent. Acetamine HCl has been shown to inhibit the production of nitric oxide in HIV-infected cells and to reduce the release of proinflammatory cytokines from macrophages. It also has been shown to inhibit the activity of cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase, and phospholipase A2 enzymes. Acetamine HCl is a glycol ether with a chemical structure similar to acetamide. Its antiinflammatory activity is due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme group p2 protein kinases, leading to decreased levels of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. The thermal expansion coefficient of acetamine HCl is higher than that of water, which may be related to its inhibition of mitochondrial membrane potential and increased cardiac output. This drug has not been shown to have any effects on congestive heart failure or on reaction mechanisms in palladium
