2-Amino-5-bromopyrimidine is a chemical compound that has the chemical formula C4H6N2O2. It is also known as 5-Bromo-2-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrimidine. The nitrogen atoms in this molecule are incorporated into the pyrimidine ring, which consists of two six membered rings fused together to form a heterocycle. This heterocycle is substituted with two bromine atoms and one amine group. Additionally, the nitrogen atom adjacent to the amine group is not part of the pyrimidine ring and instead belongs to an amino group. 2-Amino-5-bromopyrimidine has been shown to be resistant to colistin, an antibiotic that targets bacterial cell wall synthesis. This drug has been shown to inhibit lipid kinase activity in vitro, which may lead to its use as a therapeutic agent for diseases such as diabetes mellitus type
