Amitraz is a pesticide that belongs to the class of oxadiazoles. It is used as a treatment for animal parasites, such as ticks and fleas, as well as for agricultural purposes. Amitraz is also used to control pests in the home, for example ants and cockroaches. Amitraz has been shown to be toxic to both animals and humans. The oral LD50 in rats is 4-5g/kg and in mice is 2.5-3g/kg. Amitraz can cause adverse effects on the central nervous system, including dizziness and headache, at doses of 2000 ppm or more.
