N-[6-[(Amino-cyclohexylmethylidene)amino]hexyl]-4-azido-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzamide is a bifunctional reagent that reacts with the ATPase β subunit of the bacterial atpase enzyme. This reactive group undergoes photolysis to form reactive intermediates that react with the β subunit of the atpase enzyme and inhibit its activity. The yield of this reaction can be controlled by varying the concentration of carbodiimide used as a cross-linking agent. This reagent has been shown to be effective against E. coli, but not against other strains such as Proteus vulgaris and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
