3-Amino-5-methylmercapto-1H-1,2,4-triazole (AMMT) is an antibacterial that is used in the synthesis of surfactants. This compound has significant antioxidant activity and can be used as a replacement for potassium dichromate. AMMT reacts with dodecyl mercaptan to form a surfactant sodium dodecyl. The activation of AMMT is through the addition of methanol followed by the addition of sodium hydroxide. The modification of AMMT is done through the substitution with an aryl chloride or nitro group. AMMT also has photophysical properties and can be characterized by its morphology and optical properties.
