3-Amino-2-fluorobenzoic acid is a fluorescent macrocycle that has been shown to be an excellent ligand for the dopamine receptor. It is a symmetric molecule with two identical functional groups on the same side of the molecule. This molecule is also able to bind to other receptors and ion channels, such as GABA and NMDA. 3-Amino-2-fluorobenzoic acid can be used in optical studies to monitor membrane potentials, or it can be used in insecticides because of its ability to inhibit insect growth by binding to the mosquito larvae's nerve cells.
