Product Information
- 2-Amino-3-trifluoromethylbenzonitrile
- Benzonitrile, 2-amino-3-(trifluoromethyl)-
2-Amino-3-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile (3-TFB) is an inhibitor of the shikimate pathway. The shikimate pathway is a metabolic process that produces the essential aromatic amino acids, phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan. It also produces chorismate which is used in biosynthesis of several important biomolecules including the plant hormone indole-3-acetic acid and the antibiotic erythromycin. 3-TFB has been shown to inhibit the enzyme chorismate synthase, which catalyzes the conversion of phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) into chorismate. This inhibition prevents the production of aromatic amino acids and erythromycin. Inhibition of this enzyme can also be used to treat tuberculosis infections as well as other bacterial or fungal infections that are resistant to antibiotics.
