2-Amino-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine-3-carboxylic acid is a non-nucleoside inhibitor of the viral polymerase. It has been shown to inhibit the replication of HIV, HSV, and HBV in cell-based assays. This drug also has significant cytotoxic effects on cells that are not infected with herpesviruses. The selectivity index for 2-amino-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine-3-carboxylic acid is constant and it does not interact with any cellular proteins or enzymes other than those involved in viral replication. 2-Amino-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine-3-carboxylic acid inhibits the infectivity of HIV, HSV, and HBV by binding to the RNA template of these viruses and blocking their ability to replicate.
