Description

4-Amino-4'-chlorodiphenyl ether is a chemical compound that has been used in the production of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. It is also known to be an environmental contaminant. 4-Amino-4'-chlorodiphenyl ether is a peroxide that can be reduced with an acceptor such as sodium bicarbonate to form hydrogen peroxide and 4-aminophenol. This reaction can be used for the detection of 4-aminophenol in biological fluids. The long-term toxicity of this chemical has not been fully studied; however, it may have adverse effects on the liver when consumed in large quantities. In addition, 4-amino-4'-chlorodiphenyl ether appears to have no effect on DNA synthesis or protein synthesis in tissues. The molecule has high specificity for amines and chlorine monomers.
