Ac-Trp-Glu-His-Asp-AMC is a monomer that is expressed by baculoviruses. Cryo-electron microscopy has shown that Ac-Trp-Glu-His-Asp-AMC oligomerizes in the presence of caspase inhibitors. This polypeptide also activates caspase 1, which is involved in the inflammatory response. The activation of this enzyme is dependent on the proteolytic activity of the polypeptide and its stereoisomers. Acetylcholine receptor antagonists, such as coumarin derivatives, inhibit the activity of Ac-Trp-Glu-His-Asp AMC and suppress inflammation.
