Description:
2-Amino-3-[(2-pyridin-2-ylethyl)thio]propanoic acid is a cysteine protease inhibitor. It inhibits the activity of trypsin and other serine proteases by binding to the active site and forming a covalent bond with the reactive serine, thereby blocking access to the catalytic site. This drug also has an inhibitory effect on ethanol degradation by inhibiting the enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase. 2-Amino-3-[(2-pyridin-2-ylethyl)thio]propanoic acid has many analogues that have various inhibitory effects on different enzymes such as alpha amylase, beta amylase, catalase, chymotrypsin, lipoxygenase, and phospholipase A2.
