Description

1-Allyl-1H-indole-3-carbaldehyde is a chromophore that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria. It binds to bacterial DNA and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. 1-Allyl-1H-indole-3-carbaldehyde has been shown to be effective against Staphylococcus aureus and other Gram positive bacteria, although it is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex. This compound has also been shown to have antibacterial activity in vitro.
