N-(4-Acetylphenyl)benzamide is a synthetic compound that is undergoing human clinical trials for the treatment of tuberculosis. It has been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex in vitro, but not against other bacteria. N-(4-Acetylphenyl)benzamide has been shown to have little toxicity in mice at doses up to 2 g/kg, but also has toxic effects on the cardiovascular system. This drug may be useful for treating bacterial infections, but would need to be used with caution due to its potential side effects.
