N-(4-Acetylphenyl)-2-phenylacetamide is a penicillinase inhibitor, which means that it prevents the destruction of penicillins by bacteria. It binds to the active site of bacterial esterases and acylases, preventing them from breaking down the penicillin. This drug is resistant to beta-lactamases and has been shown to be effective against E. coli and Eschirichia coli, as well as other gram-negative bacteria such as Alcaligenes faecalis and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus. N-(4-Acetylphenyl)-2-phenylacetamide also has anti-inflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
