4-Allyl-5-(5-chloro-2-methoxyphenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (BTT) is a purine derivative that has been shown to have antiatherosclerotic properties. It inhibits the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II by blocking the action of renin and also inhibits platelet aggregation. BTT is also known to inhibit the production of prostaglandins, which are involved in inflammation. This drug is synthesized by coupling arylboronic acids with aminopurines or aminopyrimidines followed by reaction with pyrimidine derivatives. The yield of this reaction can be increased by using reagents such as potassium tertiary butoxide in place of sodium tertiary butoxide.
