Description:

4-Amino-2-(ethylthio)-5-pyrimidine carbonitrile is a small molecule that is used as a pharmaceutical agent. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the enzyme acyl CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase. This drug also inhibits cancer cell proliferation in vitro. 4-Amino-2-(ethylthio)-5-pyrimidine carbonitrile has been shown to be effective for the treatment of polycystic kidney disease in rats, as well as for reducing the severity of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and asthma. The drug has also been shown to be neuroprotective after an infarction or stroke, and it can reduce growth factors that are associated with organ fibrosis.
