Description

3-Amino-3-(2-methylphenyl)propanoic acid is a β-lactam antibiotic that is derived from the amino acid, β-alanine. It has shown to be effective against gastroduodenal ulcers, which are caused by Helicobacter pylori. 3-Amino-3-(2-methylphenyl)propanoic acid inhibits the growth of H. pylori by binding to their cell wall and inhibiting the enzyme, hydrolase lipase, that breaks down fats in the stomach. This drug also binds to bacterial dna and prevents synthesis of proteins essential for cells to grow and divide.
