Allyltributyltin is an organotin compound that has been identified as a potential environmental toxin. The asymmetric synthesis of allyltributyltin is catalyzed by the use of phosphotungstic acid, hydrochloric acid, and intramolecular hydrogen transfer from allyltributyltin to the electrophilic substrate. Allyltributyltin is an estrogen receptor modulator that can inhibit protein synthesis by binding to amines and nucleophiles. This process can be inhibited by carbonyl groups and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
