2-Amino-1,3-thiazole-5-carbonitrile (2ATC) is an antibacterial agent that belongs to the class of thiourea derivatives. It has a broad spectrum of activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), as well as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 2ATC inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase, which converts ribonucleotides into deoxyribonucleotides in order to synthesize DNA. This drug also shows modulating activities on human cells and can be used for the treatment of cancer. There are two possible pathways for 2ATC biosynthesis: one pathway is through carbamate formation followed by cross-coupling with piperazine; the second pathway involves fluorine substitution for chlorine in the thiourea moiety followed by transduction of acet
