3-Amino-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one hydrochloride is an isomeric compound that has been synthesized for its antihypertensive activity. It has been shown to have a number of mechanisms of action, including a reduction in the renal excretion of sodium and chloride ions and a decrease in the uptake of potassium ions by the kidney. 3-Amino-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one hydrochloride also inhibits the synthesis of angiotensin II by blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. The compound is sensitive to hydrolysis by acids and bases, which may be due to its high solubility in water.
