Product Information

Name:
1-Aminocycloheptanecarboxamide
Synonyms:
  • cycloheptanecarboxamide
  • 1-amino-
Description:

1-Aminocycloheptanecarboxamide (1ACA) belongs to a new class of compounds that are being investigated for their ability to block voltage-gated sodium channels. It has been found to be biologically active in vivo and in vitro. 1ACA blocks the channel by binding to the pentylenetetrazole site, which is located at the entrance of the pore. This binding prevents ions from entering or exiting through the channel, leading to a cessation of neural activity. 1ACA also binds to other sites on the channel and prevents ion flow through it. Furthermore, 1ACA inhibits branched-chain aminotransferase, an enzyme involved in amino acid metabolism and cell proliferation. This agent has shown potential as a drug for treating epilepsy and schizophrenia.
