1-(1-Adamantyl)-2,2-dibromoethanone (1-ADB) is a reactive intermediate that can be used to synthesize epoxy resins. It reacts with thiourea to form the corresponding 1-adamantane thiourea. The reaction with chloromethyl ketone forms the corresponding 1-adamantane chloromethyl ketone. Reaction with an arylbromide in the presence of acetonitrile yields the corresponding arylbromide 1-adamantane. Reaction with hypobromous acid or azobenzene yields the bromomethyl derivative. This intermediate can undergo structural analysis using dimethylformamide and bromomethyl as reagents.
