- 4-acetyl-3,5-dimethyl-
4-Acetyl-3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid is an organic compound that has been used as a chemical intermediate in the production of pesticides and other agrochemicals. It can be synthesized from methoxyacetic acid or by hydrogenation of 4-acetylpyrrole-2-carboxylic acid. This compound can also be produced by the oxidation of 4,4'-diacetoxydiphenyl ether with sodium chlorite. The carboxylic group in this compound is responsible for its acidic properties and its ability to produce germination in plants. The methoxy group on the other hand, is responsible for its reactivity with nucleophiles such as sodium salts. This reactivity has been studied extensively in relation to its use as a research tool for investigating the mechanism of action of pyrrole derivatives.
