[4-(2-Aminoethyl)phenyl]dimethylamine dihydrochloride (DEDMA) is a drug target that has shown inhibitory properties on mammalian cells. It is a dopamine receptor antagonist that binds to the amine group of dopamine and blocks its interaction with the receptor. DEDMA is able to inhibit the production of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid by binding to the enzyme responsible for this reaction. It has been shown to have staining properties in vitro, which may be due to its ability to bind strongly with cell nuclei and granules. DEDMA can be used for histochemical staining in vitro studies, such as rat striatal slices. It also has sequences that are conserved in other molecules with known functions, such as constant regions of immunoglobulin G antibodies.
