Description:
2-Amino-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinoline-3-carboxylic acid is an organic compound that is structurally related to the antibiotic linezolid. The 2-amino derivative was extracted from plants and has bacteriostatic activity against Staphylococcus aureus. This compound has been shown to have a similar interaction with bacteria as linezolid. The 2-amino derivative interacts with the bacterial ribosome and inhibits protein synthesis in a manner similar to linezolid. It also binds to the cytoplasmic membrane of bacteria, which may account for its high affinity for Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
