Description

3-Amino-3-methylbutan-1-ol is a nitrile. It is used as an active substance in the preparation of a perfume. 3-Amino-3-methylbutan-1-ol has been shown to be hydrolyzed by potassium hydroxide solution, yielding formamide and potassium hydroxide. The condensation of formamide with ethyl acetate yields 3-(2,2,2,-trimethylpropionylamino)-3-(2,2,2,-trimethylpropionyloxy)propanal (aldehyde). This reaction product is used as a fragrance in perfumes and cosmetics. Formamide reacts with radiation to yield formaldehyde gas and formic acid.
