1-(2-Aminoethyl)pyrrolidin-2-one is a protonated amide that has the chemical formula CH3CONHCH2NHCOCH3. It is an inhibitor compound for the enzyme leukotriene A4 hydrolase. This drug binds to the metal ion and stereoisomers of the enzyme, preventing it from hydrolyzing leukotriene A4, which leads to its accumulation in human skin and other tissues. 1-(2-Aminoethyl)pyrrolidin-2-one has been shown to be synergistic with butyrolactone in inhibiting HIV infection in vitro. It also inhibits human keratinocytes and blocks the production of leukotrienes (LTB4, LTC4, LTD4), which are inflammatory mediators.
