4-Azatricyclo[4.3.1.1~3,8~]undecane hydrochloride is a tricyclic compound that has antiviral, antiinflammatory, and cardiovascular activities. It inhibits the production of leukotrienes from arachidonic acid and has been shown to be a useful treatment for bronchial asthma in animal models. 4-Azatricyclo[4.3.1.1~3,8~]undecane hydrochloride is extracted from the plant Echinops ritro and can be prepared by the intramolecular cyclization of undecane with an azatriene or azetidine ring system as an intermediate step. The reactivity of this molecule has been studied using X-ray analysis on intermediates and trackable products such as methyl vinyl ketone (MVK).
