- 1-Acetyl-2-Carboxypiperidine
1-Acetylpiperidine-2-carboxylic acid is an acylase inhibitor that is used to treat gestational diabetes. It is a prodrug, which is hydrolyzed to the active form, 1-acetylpiperidine-2-carboxylic acid. This drug inhibits the enzyme acylase, which catalyzes the conversion of short and medium chain fatty acids into acetic acid. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to reduced production of acetate and butyrate, which are precursors for glucose production in the liver. 1-Acetylpiperidine-2-carboxylic acid has been shown to be effective in treating gestational diabetes in pregnant women by reducing blood glucose levels and increasing insulin sensitivity.
