Description

3-Azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-6-carboxylic acid is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria, yeast, and fungi. It has been used as the active ingredient in a number of commercial products for the prevention and treatment of skin infections such as impetigo, acne, and athlete's foot. 3-Azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-6-carboxylic acid is not active against bacterial spores or mycobacteria. This drug is metabolized by hydrolysis to form carboxylic acids and phosphoryl groups, which are then incorporated into DNA during replication to form mutagenic lesions in the genetic material of cells without altering its chemical structure.
