4-(Aminomethyl)benzoic acid methyl ester hydrochloride is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme, methylesterase. It is a synthetic, cycloalkane-containing peptidomimetic that has been optimized for inhibition of this target enzyme. The inhibition of methylesterase by 4-(Aminomethyl)benzoic acid methyl ester hydrochloride prevents the degradation of bioactive peptides and amides in the gastrointestinal tract and may be useful for treating inflammatory bowel disease. This drug can be synthesized using a variety of organic solvents, including hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid reacts with 4-hydroxybenzoic acid methyl ester to produce 4-(aminomethyl)benzoic acid methyl ester hydrochloride.
