3-Amino-2-chloroisonicotinamide is a nucleoside analogue that inhibits the transcriptase enzyme. It binds to the enzyme's active site and blocks RNA synthesis, inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. 3-Amino-2-chloroisonicotinamide has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of HIV reverse transcriptase and is used in the treatment of AIDS. This drug also has a number of other chemical properties, including substituent, acetyl, methoxycarbonyl, isoquinoline, inhibitor and phenyl.
