Description:
6-Aminopyridin-2(1H)-one is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be active against bacterial infections. It inhibits the synthesis of DNA and RNA in bacteria, which leads to their death. 6-Aminopyridin-2(1H)-one may also have anti-inflammatory properties, due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. 6-Aminopyridin-2(1H)-one binds to the active site of diaminopyridine (DAP) ligase, preventing the formation of DAP from 2 amino acids: aspartate and pyridoxal phosphate. The carbonyl group on 6-aminopyridin-2(1H)-one interacts with the basic group on DAP ligase, leading to inhibition of DAP ligase activity.
