2-Amino-2-cyclohexylacetic acid (ACHA) is an inhibitor of serine proteases, including trypsin and chymotrypsin. It has been shown to have inhibitory properties on the activity of HIV protease and human leukocyte elastase. ACHA has also been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, as well as t-cell leukemia cells. It is also used as an excipient in pharmaceuticals. The chemical is found naturally in the body, but its levels are low due to its instability.
