Product Information
4-Acetamido-3-methylbenzoic acid (AMBA) is a potent inducer of hepatic cytochrome P450. This enzyme is involved in the metabolism of xenobiotics, including 3-methylcholanthrene and 4-amino-3-methylbenzoic acid. AMBA also induces the synthesis of 2-amino-3-methylbenzoic acid (2A3MB), which can be metabolized to glycine. It has been postulated that AMBA may act as a competitive inhibitor of 2A3MB and inhibit its conversion to glycine, thereby leading to an increase in glycine concentrations in the liver. The high dose effects of AMBA are not well understood, but it has been shown to induce foci and cellular changes in the liver at doses greater than 100 mg/kg body weight.
