(R)-2-Amino-2-phenylacetyl chloride hydrochloride is an optical isomer of mandelic acid. It has antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria, such as E. coli, and can be used as a nutritional supplement for animals. (R)-2-Amino-2-phenylacetyl chloride hydrochloride is nontoxic to humans and animals and does not exhibit cross resistance with other antimicrobials. The mechanism of action of this drug may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial cell walls by preventing the formation of peptidoglycan or by disrupting the cytoplasmic membrane.END>
