2-Amino-2-methylbutanenitrile (2AMB) is an organic compound that is insoluble in water or alcohol. 2AMB is a colorless liquid with a strong, unpleasant odor. It has been used as a solvent and in the manufacture of other chemicals. The symptoms of 2AMB exposure include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Chronic exposure to high levels of 2AMB can cause liver damage, kidney damage, and bladder cancer. There have been reports of outbreaks of 2AMB poisoning from the use of contaminated drinking water. Chromatography has revealed the presence of 2AMB in urine samples from patients with neuropathic bladder syndrome. This chemical is metabolized by deamination to form ethylmalonic acid and methylglyoxal which are then excreted in the urine. Ethanol extracts from plants were shown to be effective against viruses such as HIV-1 and HIV-2 and some organisms such as Cand
