Quinoline-2-carboxylic acid, 2-amino-5-methylphenyl ester is a quinoline derivative that has been synthesized from the reaction of 2-aminophenol with bromoacetyl chloride. It is used as a starting material for the synthesis of other organic compounds and pharmaceuticals. Quinoline derivatives are acidic, which can be seen in the yields obtained from the reaction. The efficient method for preparing this compound is to react it with polyphosphoric acid in anhydrous conditions at elevated temperature. The structure analysis of this compound was done by X-ray diffraction, and it was found that there are two crystalline forms: one with space group P21/a and another with space group P21/n.
