3-Aminopyrazine-2-carbaldehyde is a compound that has acetylation, biological function, and pteridinecarboxylic acid. 3-Aminopyrazine-2-carbaldehyde inhibits the growth of bacteria by hydrolyzing terminal alkynes to form substituted acetylenes. This reaction is catalyzed by the enzyme nitrogenase. The enzyme flavin, which participates in the electron transport chain in mitochondria, catalyzes this reaction through its ability to accept hydrogen atoms from terminal alkynes. 3-Aminopyrazine-2-carbaldehyde also reacts with acidic reagents such as ethoxycarbonyl chloride or ethyl benzoylacetate to give substituted acetic acid derivatives. This reaction proceeds via a radical mechanism involving an acyl radical intermediate.
