Doxorubicin is a chemotherapeutic drug that is used to treat cancers. It inhibits ribonucleotide reductase, which prevents DNA synthesis and leads to cell death. Doxorubicin has been shown to be effective in cancer treatment by potentiating the cytotoxic effects of other anticancer drugs, such as cisplatin or cyclophosphamide. Doxorubicin also has anti-tumour activity in vitro, with a potency comparable to doxorubicin. Doxorubicin binds to two types of receptors: pyrazolyl and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF). This binding activates the receptor tyrosine kinase resulting in the induction of a number of downstream signaling pathways, including phosphorylation of CTGF at Y552 and Y561, which results in an increase in CTGF-induced migration and proliferation.
