Product Information
3-Amino-2-nitrobenzonitrile is a nitroaniline that has been shown to cause methemoglobinemia in laboratory animals. It reacts with hemoglobin to form methemoglobin and oxidizes to form toxic reaction products. This compound has been detected by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in the urine of a human subject exposed to this chemical. 3-Amino-2-nitrobenzonitrile is toxic and causes biochemical changes in the animal, such as a decrease in blood oxygen levels and an increase in blood lactate levels. 3-Amino-2-nitrobenzonitrile also has pharmacological properties, including inhibition of oxyhemoglobin reductase and methemoglobin reductase activity.
