Description:

(1S,3S,4R)-2-Azabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-3-carboxylic acid is a chiral catalyst for the asymmetric allylic oxidation of proline derivatives to the corresponding allylic alcohols. The catalytic asymmetric allylic oxidation can be used to produce α-amino acids and cyclohexene derivatives from inexpensive starting materials.
The tertiary butyl group on this molecule provides steric protection for the active site of the catalyst during the reaction process. It also has a chiral center that allows for an enantioselective reaction by binding with a copper ion in order to form a complex that accelerates the oxidation process.
