Akuammiline is a group P2, skeleton indole alkaloid that is found in the plant Kopsia singapurensis. It has been shown to have cytotoxic activity against cervical cancer cells and sarcoma cells. Akuammiline is a synthetic drug that has been used as an anti-inflammatory agent and for the treatment of malaria. Akuammiline inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes and thereby reducing inflammation. It also inhibits angiogenesis, which may be due to its inhibition of protein kinase C (PKC).
