3-Amino-3-(2-nitrophenyl)propionic acid is a linker that can be used for staining, molecular imaging, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. It has been used to create β-amino acid analogs that can be used as substrates for polymerase chain reactions. 3-Amino-3-(2-nitrophenyl)propionic acid also serves as an electron donor in the solid phase synthesis of polymers. This compound has been used to create phosphatase inhibitors by irradiating a malonic acid substrate with UV light and then reacting it with 3-amino-3-(2-nitrophenyl)propionic acid. Finally, this compound has been used for microscopy studies of silicon films by adding it to the polymer film before heating it.
