Description

Cis-2-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid is a synthetase inhibitor that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It has been shown to be effective against Candida glabrata, which is resistant to the common antifungal agents. Cis-2-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in vitro by binding to their cell membranes and interfering with their ability to produce proteins. The drug is a prodrug that is activated enzymatically by esterases in the body, and it inhibits protein synthesis through reversible inhibition of the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH). Cis-2-Amino-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid can also be synthesized by palladium catalysis using a Staudinger reduction reaction between an alcohol and an amine.
