Product Information
- 3-Methylaspartic Acid
2-Amino-3-methyl succinic acid (2AMS) is a metabolic intermediate in the synthesis of propanediol, which is an alternative carbon source for bacteria. 2AMS is also involved in protein synthesis and vitamin B12 biochemistry. It typically occurs with glutamate as a cofactor, which is important for the catalytic rate of glutamate dehydrogenase. The enzyme sequences are conserved among many different bacterial species and functional groups are present on the molecule that allow it to function as a catalyst. 2AMS has been sequenced and found to have a number of kinetic properties that make it possible for it to be used as an energy source by organisms such as E. coli.
