Description

(S)-3-Aminopiperidine-2-one is a white crystalline solid, with a melting point of 97-98 °C. It is soluble in methanol, but insoluble in water. This compound has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of hydroxylated macrocycles and as a precursor to n-substituted aminopiperidines. (S)-3-Aminopiperidine-2-one reacts with ketones to form 3,4-dihydropyrrolo[1,2]quinazoline derivatives. The reaction products can be made optically pure by reacting the ketone with (S)-3-aminopiperidine-2-one enantiomerically labeled with deuterium and then separating the resulting diastereomers by gas chromatography.
