Azidotris(diethylamino)phosphoniumbromide is a diazo compound that is used in the preparation of amines. This reagent reacts with primary amines at low temperatures to form azides. Azidotris(diethylamino)phosphoniumbromide can be used as a catalyst for the synthesis of aliphatic hydrocarbons, and it is also used in transfer reactions involving alicyclic compounds. This reagent is similar to azidotrimethylsilane and azidopentylmethylsilane, but it is less reactive than these compounds. It does not react with secondary or tertiary amines, which are more commonly found in nature.
