- (3S)-3-methyl-D-aspartic acid
(2R,3S)-2-Amino-3-methylsuccinicacid (AMS) is a regulatory molecule that is involved in the control of gene transcription. It can be used as a model system to study the effects of AMS on gene transcription. AMS inhibits cyanobacterial growth and phosphatase activity by binding to the active site of phosphatases. The high melting point of AMS is an important factor for its use in chromatography. This molecule also has microcystins as an impurity and may inhibit protein synthesis due to its inhibition of phosphatase activity. The presence of stereoisomers makes it difficult to determine the structure of the molecule.
