Description

Androisoxazole is a hydroxylated analog of oxazole that has been used as a polymer matrix for drug delivery. It has shown to be effective in the treatment of bowel disease and has been tested as a potential chemotherapeutic agent against carcinoma cell lines. Androisoxazole is able to inhibit cell specific energy metabolism by binding to the hydroxyl group on the enzyme cytochrome P450 reductase, which is essential for the synthesis of steroid hormones. This inhibition may cause symptoms of inflammation and bowel disease. Androisoxazole also inhibits water vapor absorption in inflammatory bowel disease and occludes the chemical diversity of its target site.
